ISEGRIM: Additive Repair Technology for Long-Lasting Fusion Reactors

In the ISEGRIM research project, Fraunhofer IPT is collaborating with partners to develop an innovative additive repair process for tungsten components in fusion reactors. Using laser metal deposition welding with wire (LMD-w), erosion-related defects are regenerated, the components' service life is significantly extended, and the economic efficiency of fusion reactors is improved.

A key objective is to develop a specialized processing unit with integrated vacuum technology, optimized optics, and advanced sensor systems. Thus, the project is making a decisive contribution to sustainable and efficient energy generation in the future.
