Profile of the Fraunhofer Competence Field Additive Manufacturing

One Topic – 19 Institutes – One Competence Field

With 19 Fraunhofer Institutes throughout Germany, the Fraunhofer Competence Field Additive Manufacturing („Fraunhofer ADDITIV“) is Europe‘s largest player in AM research. The competence field covers the entire additive process chain - from developing new materials and creating efficient production processes to ensuring product quality and further developing simulation tools.

The expertise of the Fraunhofer competence field involves several areas:

·         Engineering: The development of new products and suitable process chains.

·         Materials: The development and adaptation of innovative materials.

·         Technologies: Increasing cost efficiency in additive production.

·         Quality: Ensuring reproducibility and product quality.

·         Software & Simulation: Developing intelligent algorithms for better application.

With a focus on increasing productivity, improving quality and sustainability, Fraunhofer ADDITIV supports the industry in implementing innovative solutions through robust processes and standards, automation and user-friendly processes, extensive materials research and multi-material solutions. Trade fairs and conferences such as DDMC, formnext and rapid.tech provide platforms to showcase latest Fraunhofer developments and research results, as well as to network with industry and research partners.
